Home minister Gamawan Fauzi says that one of his immediate jobs would be to facilitate local election s in 246 regencies and provinces across the country which would take place simultaneously next year.Gamawan told Antara recently that the regional elections are expected to run well. This is the most pressing agenda of mine. He said that the goverment would synchronize the 2004 regional administration law and the 2008 election law, which says voters need to tick their ballots once. In previous regional elections,voters were required to perforate ballots. Gamawan further said that the goverment would help the General Election Commission and its regional arms administer the election to pick new regents,mayor and governors.He also insisted that regional elections in 13 quake – hit regencies and municipality in West Sumatra and the gubernatorial election in the province would take place in accordance with the schedule.***English Service/Weekly News- LILIK
